First Baltic Operator Challenge to take place in Latvia

On 6-8 September, this year, the first Baltic Operator Challenge will take place in Latvia. All operators of heavy machinery from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have been invited for participation. This will be an opportunity not only to compete, but also to meet the industry specialists from the Baltic States and share experience.

Cat® - it's a lifestyle

“With this challenge we wanted to break the stereotypical image of tractor driver and show that a machinery operator is a serious profession requiring both knowledge and qualification, and talent,” comments Jānis Vīksna, Regional Manager of the LLC (SIA) Avesco in Latvia and organiser of the Baltic Operator Challenge.

Industrial machinery operator challenge includes tasks with various units of Caterpillar® machinery. Operators must operate as yet little known or unknown Cat® machinery models, which they are trying for the first time ever during the challenge. This is the reason why this is a story about talent, about men, who call machinery their hobby, passion and lifestyle.

Tasks and product news

This event will take place at the level of the Baltic States for the first time. For three days, operators will individually perform three tasks using various Caterpillar® machines. The participants of the challenge and representatives of their company will also have an opportunity to participate in educational seminars where they could find out about the newest Trimble 3D GPS levelling system for excavators, news on construction machinery and advantages of Cat Rebuild certified repair.

During the three-day challenge, while operators will show off their skills, families and supporters will have entertainment of their own. Little ones will be cared for at the children entertainment centre, while adults will have the chance to participate in various relays and educational programmes. The event will provide an opportunity for all the family to be together and become familiar with the daily work of the strong gender.

Time and venue

The participants can apply electronically from 10 July until 15 August on Operators working with industrial machinery of any brand and type employed by an industrial sectoral company registered in the territory of the Baltic region, at least 18 years of age and holding driver's licence for tractor-type machinery are eligible to apply for the Operator Challenge.

For all three days, challenge will take place by the Avesco Baltic Office in Latvia, at Ziedu Gravas, Mārupes District. Every day of the challenge will include competitions of operators from all three Baltic States. Maximum number of participants to be applied from the same company is two. Maximum number of participants from the same country: 20 operators.

The participant of each Baltic State gaining the highest number of points throughout the challenge will be presented the Grand Prix – voucher for two persons to Caterpillar MDLC in Malaga, one of the most up-to-date training and demonstration centres in the world. Additional prize – one voucher for a trip to Spain – will be presented to the company represented by each winner of Grand Prix. Participants showing the best results of the day will be awarded at the end of each day of the challenge.

We call the industry to support

“Operator challenge in Latvia has long traditions, and such challenge has always been well attended. Now, we are organising the challenge at international level, therefore I will call the industrial companies of Latvia to be responsive and support participation of their operators in the challenge, although, as we know, September has always been very busy in our sector,“ says Jānis Vīksna, Regional Manager in Latvia, encouraging to participate in the event.
